Rats were exposed to X-rays by radiotherapy at the dose of 8 Gy (0.62 Gy/min). Radiotherapy induced DNA damage in rat lymphocytes. DNA damage was significantly reduced by 4 mg/kg/day Astaxanthin for 7 days. Astaxanthin may be a promising agent against radiotherapy induced DNA damage. Abstract Astaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment, is believed to be effective in the repair of DNA damage.
